Insulators in transmission lines, as key materials, need to operate stably for up to 50 years under extreme environmental conditions and continuous stress, and must ensure no faults and no service interruptions. During its service period, it mainly plays two key roles.

Electrical insulation: Ensuring safety between conductors and towers
In transmission lines, insulators play a crucial role in electrical insulation, ensuring that the conductors and towers can operate safely and stably. It needs to continuously function for up to 50 years under various extreme environmental conditions and continuous stress, and must be free of faults and service interruptions. This key role is crucial for the stable operation of the entire power transmission system.
Dual guarantee of mechanical support and electrical insulation
In transmission lines, insulators not only shoulder the important responsibility of electrical insulation but also provide necessary mechanical support. It ensures that conductors and towers remain stable under various harsh environments and continuous stresses, thereby guaranteeing the safe operation of the entire power transmission system.
1. Standard insulators have an excellent creepage distance, which is higher than the value stipulated by the standard. At the same time, they have a good edge interval design, enabling efficient self-cleaning under natural conditions such as wind or rain.
2. Stain-resistant insulators, characterized by a relatively high edge height and a large edge spacing, feature a structure that helps prevent bridging between adjacent edges. This type of insulator performs exceptionally well and yields remarkable results in coastal areas (often subject to salt spray erosion) and in severely polluted environments that require a higher creepage distance.
3. Aerodynamic insulator: Its unique design lies in the absence of edges under the umbrella, a feature that effectively prevents solid contaminants (such as dust and sand) from accumulating on its lower surface. This type of insulator performs particularly well in dry desert areas with much wind and little rain, and is very suitable for use in tension strings and hanging strings.
4. Outer umbrella design: Its creepage distance is comparable to that of the stain-resistant type, making it particularly suitable for extreme environments with severe solid pollutants. In extreme or special pollution conditions, it is recommended to use tempered glass insulators with built-in coatings at the factory, which can avoid the trouble of regular cleaning.
Quality considerations for insulators
Insulators play a crucial role in the power system. It not only needs to withstand loads from all directions, but also deal with different stresses to ensure the stable operation of power equipment. Therefore, the quality of insulators directly affects the safety and stability of the power system.
