    2、Structure & Materials

    Same cap‑and‑pin assembly structure as conventional disc suspension glass insulator, three core components bonded by high‑quality cement mortar：

    1. Toughened glass shell：Thermally tempered borosilicate glass, forms surface compressive stress after quenching; special optimized shed profile for ground‑wire application, compact dimension, lightweight, good self‑cleaning smooth surface。
    2. Hot‑dip galvanized iron cap：Forged steel cap, ball‑socket coupling interface per IEC 60120, anti‑corrosion hot‑dip galvanizing treatment。
    3. Hot‑dip galvanized steel pin：Forged steel pin; soft gasket and tar coating applied at cement contact area to buffer thermal expansion‑contraction stress, prevent mechanical damage under temperature cycling。

    Structural difference vs conductor‑side glass insulator: Ground‑wire type is optimized for ground‑wire working condition, with special arc‑resistance gap design for lightning discharge, lower required creepage distance than live‑line insulator, compact size and lighter weight。

    Electrical Performance

    1. Insulate ground‑wire from tower under normal operating condition; form discharge gap for lightning surge, safely release lightning current to tower when lightning strikes ground‑wire。
    2. Zero‑value self‑breaking feature: Once insulation degrades to zero‑value defect caused by lightning, aging or internal flaw, glass shell will shatter automatically. Fault insulator can be visually detected from ground or helicopter patrol, no need climbing tower for insulation resistance measurement, greatly reduce O&M workload。
